Emulating TI-Nspire CX CAS Touchpad on Android/iOS with Firebird
Firebird provides a multi-platform TI-Nspire graphing calculator emulation solution for Linux, Windows, Android, Mac OS X, and iOS. This guide details the technical steps required to emulate the TI-Nspire CX CAS Touchpad (as well as other TI-Nspire models) on mobile devices using Firebird.

Required Files
Obtain the following items before starting:

Firebird Application
- Download the latest version for Android or iOS from the releases page.

ROM/OS File
- TI-NspireCX-4.3.0.702.tco (or for CAS: TI-NspireCXCAS-4.3.0.702.tcc)
- Check for the latest version as referenced at the download link.

Boot Files
- Boot1cx.img and Boot2cx.img (applicable for TI-Nspire CX and TI-Nspire CX CAS).

Flash and Snapshot Files
- Generate these files on a computer following the instructions in the companion article for Mac, Windows, or Linux, or use the provided sample files.
Installation Procedure

.ipadirectly. - For non-jailbroken devices or self-compilation, follow the iOS build instructions and transfer the required files using iTunes File Sharing.

2. Transfer Required Files
After application installation, transfer the following to the mobile device:
- Boot1 image
- Flash file (and Snapshot file, if available)
Swipe the keypad to the left (tap on the space between buttons) to reveal the configuration panel. Use this panel to select the appropriate boot image and flash file.
Configuration and Emulation

Select the Calculator Kit
- Input a kit name (e.g., “TI-Nspire CX CAS”).
- Choose the Boot1 and Flash images, and assign the Snapshot file if applicable.

Start the Emulation
- Press the “Start” button from the configuration menu.

Installation Process
- Once the emulator starts, press “I” on the keypad to commence the installation process.
- During initialization, set the language and font.
- Press “Save” to commit the emulation state; wait for the “Flash and snapshot saved” confirmation at the bottom of the screen.

Access the Configuration Panel
- Swipe the keypad to the left and navigate to the Flash & Boot1 section.

Clone the Existing Kit
- Copy the current kit to create a new configuration (e.g., “TI-Nspire CX”).
- Reassign the Boot1, Flash, and Snapshot files accordingly.

Finalize and Start Emulation
- Press “Start” for the newly created kit.
- Follow the same installation process (press “I” and then “Save”) to begin emulation.

Default Kit Selection
- Configure the default startup kit in the configuration panel under the “emulation” settings.
Additional Technical Considerations
- Ensure the ROM/OS and boot files are coherent editions for the selected calculator model (CX vs. CX CAS).
- The mobile UI currently lacks native flash image and snapshot creation; transferring these files from a computer is mandatory.
- Compatibility checks: Verify that file versions and sizes comply with the requirements specified in the Firebird documentation.
